Meet: Kirrily (Chatfield OzCool Electrician)
In December of 2023, Chatfield OzCool welcomed a new member to the team.
Kirrily had recently completed her Cert III in ElectroTechnology and was looking for work as an Electrician.
Kirrily approached Russell Chatfield once she completed her apprenticeship as she was looking to secure permanent employment. Russell identified the skills that Kirrily could bring to the team and in December 2023, just a couple of months after completing her apprenticeship, Kirrily came on board as a Chatfield OzCool Electrician.
The experience that Kirrily gained throughout her apprenticeship meant she had experience working alongside the railway for 18 months and working within the VIC Big Build projects. She also worked within hospitals and new builds such as new homes or apartments throughout her apprenticeship years.
The wealth of hands-on work-experience Kirrily brought to this role was beneficial as a day in the life of a Chatfield OzCool technician can take you to a variety of different work sites.
What does a typical day look like for a Chatfield OzCool Electrician?
A typical day for Kirrily starts with completing necessary paperwork on site and identifying any issues regarding the job ahead.
The first step usually involves isolating the power (depending on the type of job) and then commencing the repair or service work. Once the work is complete, Kirrily ensures the job site is clean and confirms that the customer is happy with the works completed.
Once completed, she’ll then move on to the next job in her schedule, which can see her travelling all over Melbourne.
Kirrily thoroughly enjoys the customer facing side of this role as she really enjoys meeting new people. She encourages customers (and even children at residential job sites) to ask any questions regarding what she’s doing and she’s proud to explain her processes. Kirrily finds that customers can sometimes be surprised to see a female tradesperson doing electrical work, but as a proud female tradesperson, Kirrily is only too happy to answer any questions they might have and help breakdown that gender stereotype.
Outside of work Kirrily really enjoys riding dirt bikes and going four-wheel driving with her boyfriend and friends, or camping and spending time with her parents at their property in the Victorian High Country.
Kirrily is a welcome addition to Chatfield OzCool and we look forward to seeing her thrive as a valued member of the team.
