No matter how well you service and maintain roof mounted HVAC equipment, unfortunately, once rust gets into the outer casing of your air conditioning unit, it’s operational days are numbered.
Chatfield OzCool recently completed an equipment upgrade project at the 7Eleven store in Elwood.
As you can see from the photos, rust had slowly crept along the edges of their roof mounted HVAC unit and compromised the integrity of its housing. Despite efforts to maintain and prolong the life of this equipment, it was beginning to experience recurrent operational faults.
The need for equipment reliability and integrity was imperative for smooth running of this retail space. With this in mind, the decision was made to replace the unit.
When hoisting the old unit off the roof with a crane, you can see from the image above just how rusted out the unit was at the base.
Once an air conditioning unit starts to experience rust this far along the outer casing, it’s only a matter of time before this unit would have experienced a complete mechanical failure.
A new power supply and new digital control system was also installed with this upgrade, ensuring the unit can operate at optimum output.
Now that this vital air conditioning equipment has been upgraded, the system now runs well, without the breakdowns that the previous unit had begun to experience.
This job was a testament to the notion that even with equipment that is professionally maintained and serviced, sometimes it’s impossible to extend the longevity of equipment when there are factors outside of the technicians control. In this case, it was exposure to the elements.
